Senjou no Hana Review by Shira
01. Prisoner- The song has a catchy guitar patern that's followed by drums and Aya's voice. This song is slow yet has a strong beat to it. Aya's voice is distorted to make it fit the music better. You can sense a form of inprisonment in it. Well, if you really try anyway. The guitar solo in the middle doesn't sound out of place and isn't long. All in all, it's a good song. It's catchy, makes for a good opening for the album.

02. HANDS- Aya's first single. Also opens with a guitar pattern. I love this song, it has this grungy sound to it withought being too Nirvana-ish. In this song Aya's voice is her own, and it's awesome. The chorus is really catchy and powerful. The song's rhytm is somewhat the same as Prisoner, a bit faster. The guitar solo in this song is a lot longer than the one in Prisoner, but it fits here. Awesome song, I love it.

03. Sentaku no Asa (Original English Version)- This song has very powerful lyrics. Music wise it's slower than HANDS. This whole song talks about an abortion. You can hear that the lyrics here are very important to Aya since her voice is very powerful in this song. Once again there's a long guitar solo, I think it's a bit shorter than the one in HANDS and longer than the one in Prisoner, anyway it's a good one. In conclusion, this song is very dramatic and very powerful. One of my favourites.

04. Senjou no Hana- The song this album is named on. This song starts with a small guitar solo. Aya's voice joins in with a whisper and gets stronger. It's a slow song with a lot of small guitar solos in the middle. after a while comes in a long guitar solo, very calm with strong drums following it. Not one of my favourites, but I still love it, it has something very soothing.

05. May Day- It sound like a cheerful song at the beggining with light guitars opening it. The drums add rhytm and by the time the chorus arrives the beat is catchy. Some of the lyrics let you knwo that it's not really happy song even though the cheerful guitar keeps playing through out the entire song. The guitar solo isn't long and complicated, it stays light. The song however ends with a few heavier notes, both in the music and in Aya's voice. Good song, I love it.

06. RABBI DOLL- This song has this half ridiculous sound to it. Aya's voice sounds childish and the music joins her. The song isn't too catchy. It gets catchy around the chorus where the guitar makes childish sounds. Around the end of the song, Aya's voice gets heavier, almost like she's angry because she can't find her Rabbi Doll. This song doesn't have a guitar solo, and is the shortest song in the album. It's cute but Aya has done better.

07. ANGERICA- This song snaps you up from the silly mood you had while listening to RABBI DOLL. Aya's voice is more dramatic and sad here. The whole atmosphere of the song sounds much darker than it really is because it comes right after RABBI DOLL. In the chorus you think the rhytm will get harder but it stays the same. Through out the song, Aya sounds calm, a bit sad but calm. When the chorus arrives she sounds sadder and angrier. The song ends with a guitar solo that leaves you a bit hanging. Good song, can calm you down or make you cry, depends when you hear it.

08. Jona no Nikki (Home Demo Version)- This song has only Aya and her guitar. It's one of her very first songs, she recorded on her own. You can hear she's influenced by Nirvana by the fact that she has "Smells like tean spirit" as part or the lyrics. It's a very calm song, very soothing yet a bit depressing. The fact that this song has no instruments other than Aya and her guitar doesn't make it boring at all, it makes it even more inetersting than the others for some reason. You can really hear her in it. I really love this song, it's touching.

09. KING OF PAIN- This song has this Metal opening, with Aya whispering and later rasing her voice to top the guitars and drums. It has very rock-ish guitar sounds and Aya's grungy voice makes a strong appearnace here. It has a guitar solo that you don't really pay attention too because it's insignificat really. Aya's voice here is the main instrument and all the others are like guest appearances. But it is a great song.

10. CRAZY MERMAID (Album Version)- The song starts with a rock sounding guitar solo. When it ends you get a solo by Aya that opens the song dramaticaly. Then both the guitar and Aya are heard. The chorus is amazing, it's catchy and you can hear all the instruments. Right after the chorus ends you get another guitar solo and the Aya joins once again although this time with all the instruments with her. The song goes up and down with the rhythm, losing the drums once, then losing the guitar and so on. Near the end you get a different guitar solo, a longer one. This song makes you want to scream the lyrics, even though Aya isn't screaming. Definetly one of my favourite songs.

11. FUKAI AI- The last song on the album. Has a dramatic opening of one guitar, then another guitar joins along with a tiny beat of drums and the bass. A bit later Aya joins in with a small and quiet voice, almost as if she's imbarrassed. The chorus is louder than the rest of the song and makes it more powerful. Aya sounds almost as if she's crying in it. When it ends however, it's back to the whispering and the slower rhythm. Near the next chorus the drums get harder adn then once again, Aya's voice gets louder and she really sounds like she could cry any minute. Right after it comes in a short guitar solo and from now on the beat is louder and Aya's voice stays loud and gets louder when coming closer to the end. In the end however Aya goes back to whispering. Very powerful song, very touching. I adore it.

Conclusion: Awesome album, should be owned by every Aya fan. Trust me, it's worth every yen.
